MBA 4-day Ride 2018

Posted on August 24, 2018

In spite of rain and threats of rain, which required a number of ‘board meetings’ to revise our plans, we got in four good days of riding, though we ended up with fewer miles than planned. Our rides started from the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort on the north side of Lexington. With the assistance of the Bluegrass Cycling Club we had planned four routes, the three longer ones heading west of Lexington in the area of Midway, Versailles (“Ver-sales” to locals) and Frankfort and the Sunday route heading north of the city Map.

  • Thursday was nearly a washout and we had nearly given up for the day when the sun suddenly popped out, so we switched to the planned shorter Sunday route and got in an evening ride on the rolling hills north of Lexington through many picturesque horse farms.
  • Friday also started with rain, but we were finally able to roll out at mid-day for a slightly shortened version of the planned route, which, once again, led us over many rolling hills on quiet, scenic lanes with stone walls and double fences.
  • The forecast for Saturday looked equally grim, but when the sun rose it was all clear, and we rode our planned route from Midway, a charming town with a historic Main Street about ten miles west of Lexington. This route took us beyond horse country into a more rustic, rural region with some longer climbs and fun descents and then onto lunch in the state capitol, Frankfort.
  • On Sunday we did the planned route, repeating the one we did Thursday, but stopping this time for a bit of brunch at the charming Windy Corner Café.
